Scalp Acupuncture, also referred to Head Acupuncture, is a contemporary form of Acupuncture integrating Western anatomical knowledge on brain function, and Eastern acupuncture techniques to effectively treat disorders related to the central and peripheral nervous system.
By using Acupuncture needles on the scalp, we are able to stimulate specific areas of the brain responsible for various body areas (movement and sensation), balance, vision and/or speech. For someone who has had a car accident and had a traumatic brain injury (TBI)/concussion, Scalp Acupuncture treatment can be extremely beneficial. With a TBI/concussion injury, the individual may experience light and/or sound sensitivity, headaches, dizziness, memory loss and/or problems with speech. They may also suffer from widespread pain and discomfort. With Scalp Acupuncture, we are able to stimulate areas of the brain responsible for these dysfunctions to promote quicker recovery and restore homeostasis.
Scalp Acupuncture is also used effectively in the rehabilitation and treatment of other neurological conditions such as paralysis, stroke, spinal cord injuries and Parkinson’s disease.
We were very fortunate to learn from Dr. Jason Jishun Hao, one of the early Scalp Acupuncturists who was educated by the founders of Scalp Acupuncture in China, Dr. Jiao Shun-Fa. We were able to witness the profound effects of Scalp Acupuncture treatment on patients with a variety of neurological conditions. We are very excited to bring this knowledge back to Vancouver and provide treatments to those who may benefit from it.
